Since about the age of seven, I have been fascinated by Science, Science Fiction and Adventure. This interest has stayed with me ever since, leading me onto many varied interests and creative projects (only a fraction of which survive today, sadly.) One of those that I created in school was a universe in which there were many starfaring empires competing for control of a particular section of space. (seems a bit 'ho-hum' now, but back then it wasn't!)
In 1985 I discovered, and fell in love with, Traveller.
This science fiction role-playing game (which first came out in 1977) consisted of three small A5 books, almost all rules and not much background. Within twelve years there was additional stuff around - adventures, supplements and so on, building up the universe of the Third Imperium, which so many Traveller players know and love so well. But at that time, those extra bits were not easy to obtain.
So I used the background I had created, and translated it into a form that would fit the gaming rules, and then continued to build up the background, the planets and worlds; as well as writing adventures for my players set in this universe I had created. The references to Traveller are only a thin veneer which can easily be removed.
For the purposes of this website, I have translated the world statistics into Megatraveller format. Why Megatraveller? It's the format I'm most familiar with. I've got "Traveller the New Era" and "Mark Miller's Traveller" (also known as T4) and I've read up on GURPS Traveller, but Megatraveller was, for me, the 'Golden Age', and it's the form I like the most. But it's easy enough to translate Megatraveller into Traveller 4 or even GURPS.
By 1990 I had developed a plot, and embarked upon my first major project - a comic/graphic novel series set in this universe. But unfortunately my drawing talents are almost non-existent, and I didn't know anyone willing and able to take my vision and set it down into pen and ink.
In 1995 I first put pen to paper and started writing the novel whose title you read at the top of this page. It is a bit of a struggle and I am constantly having to schedule it in between work, kids and chores (and it doesn't always get in) But hopefully before long I'll have finished it... (You'll be bloody lucky!) ...and maybe, just maybe, I'll see my name on the shelf along with Asimov, Baxter, Drake and Hamilton... (Aye! Dream On!)
